10 Hints to Help You Achieve Your Goals

By: Annalaura Brown

Are you struggling with your goal setting? Do you need some ideas on how to successfully set and achieve your goals? The following 10 hints have helped me enormously increase the odds of my achieving my goals.

1. Write them down. I know you have heard this many times but the mere act of writing down our goals increases the likelihood that they will be reached.

2. Read them every day, out-loud. Our subconscious mind needs to hear ourselves telling ourselves what our goals are.

3. Write down I am statements on 3X5 cards and look at them regularly. Read these statements out-loud every day until you believe them and until they come true.

4. Visualize your goals. Find pictures and words to describe them and put them on a poster board or in a book. Look at them often.

5. Read books about goal setting, and complete the exercises. Two of my favorites are Goals by Brian Tracy and Unstoppable Women by Cynthia Kersey.

6. Record a cassette tape or CD with motivational music and with your voice telling you what your goals are and then listen to it at least once a day.

7. Write your goals down on a pillow and use the pillow to sleep on. You will dream about achieving your goals until they are realized.

8. Listen to motivational speakers talking about goal setting and then follow their advice. Jack Zoufelt and Zig Ziglar are two of the most famous.

9. Make your goals specific, reasonable and measurable. How will you know when you have achieved a goal? Can you accomplish your goal within a reasonable amount of time? Is it dependent upon others? It is okay to have long term goals but make sure that they are broken down into smaller goals and that you have written down, visualized and developed steps for achieving these smaller goals as well.

10. Decide on a reward for yourself for when you have achieved each goal. Make it something significant but yet related to the goal you have set.
