10 Questions to Ask Yourself While Evaluating an Online Course

By: Aaron Brooks

Online education offers so many choices and opportunities for students young as well as old. By registering for an online course one can earn a high school diploma, a college degree, a doctorate, an MBA or a certification or diploma in computer applications and so on.

Finding a college and deciding on what you want to qualify in is the first part of the process. The second step is to confirm that the college you have selected is accredited and that the course work covers what you need.

Before taking the final step and paying the fees you need to evaluate the course to determine whether the one you have selected fulfills all your needs.

1. Determine what you will gain from doing the course? Whether the certification is recognized.

2. Find out whether the course work actually takes you further in your line of work. Is it repeating what you already know or is it going to introduce new concepts and innovations.

3. Compare the course and University with others and find out which one is the most suitable.

4. Make all efforts to find out from other students and people whether the university actually delivers all it promises or whether the whole course is just eye wash.

5. Study the syllabus, projects, and qualifications of the instructors, and study schedule to determine whether all this is suitable.

6. Compare your work load and schedule against that of the course and evaluate whether you will be able to fulfill all the criteria for the course and how much flexibility the course offers.

7. Try and determine what qualities the online course will enhance, team work, lateral thinking, critical evaluation, cognitive maturity and so on.

8. Will the course prepare me for further learning? Will the course be the foundation of higher education or is it a stand alone course?

9. Will it mold me into a leader?

10. What role will the course play in my career and does the office acknowledge such qualifications as relevant?

Take concrete steps and ensure that the online course is professional, organized, and complete in every sense. Decisions should be based on your long term goals, interests, present career, and a correct and fair understanding of what the future may hold. Do a complete study of your career, interests, and goals. Find out what training, credentials, and degrees are essential for you to attain your goals. Then create a plan of action that will lead the way to your achieving the goals. So, you need to think time-frame, recognition of qualifications, costs of education, infrastructure, and last but not the least personal talents and infrastructure.

Look for reliability, quality, and high standards in the online college. Do your homework thoroughly and you will be sure that the course you choose will be the best.
