BYU and the University of Oregon go head to head tonight in the 2006 Las Vegas Bowl and Jimmy Boyd has your winning play! The game can be seen at 8 EST on ESPN live from Las Vegas, Nevada my favorite city in the world. Steve Young’s Alma Mater was a big surprise this season going 10-2 and finishing a spotless 8-0 in the Mountain West Conference. Oregon was highly touted early on in the season but finished a disappointing 7-5 and recorded just a 4-5 record in Pac 10 play. This game will showcase the offensive side of the football with the BYU Cougars 5th ranked total offense. If you want to make a play on the side, I would suggest taking the Cougars because of their offense, which has met every challenge this season, but tonight’s big play goes on the total. BYU averages 458 yards per game while the Ducks have put up 436 yards per game of total offense. Oregon is ranked eighth nationally in total offense but inconsistency has been a problem all season long. Both teams have made the trip to Sin City in the past for the Las Vegas Bowl with the Ducks hammering Air Force 41-13 in 1997 and BYU going down last year 35-28 to a superior Cal team. The Cougars are going to have to get the bowl monkey off their back and I think this is their year to do so. BYU hasn't won in the post-season since the 1996 Cotton Bowl and it is just 7-16-1 all-time in the bowls as larger conference schools have often got the best of the Cougars. Sam Boyd Stadium has been good to the Cougars though. It is very familiar territory as they are 7-2 there all-time. BYU is also the first ranked team ever to play in this bowl. The Ducks were ranked as high as 11th this season in the polls, but they quacked their last three games away to knock themselves out of the top 25. Oregon started as a six-point underdog but heavy action has lowered the line significantly to three points. I think the Ducks are disappointed to be here, while BYU feels like it has something to prove losing here last season and being overlooked in the wake of playing a larger conference school. I would go with BYU minus the points tonight for a small play on the side, but I am absolutely pounding the total with a 5 Star play. The bookmaker’s have set the bar at 62 points. Find out if the books have set the bar too high because of these two potent offenses or if this one will go over the mark. Jimmy Boyd’s Thursday night Las Vegas Bowl Total is 100% Guaranteed to make you money.
