Andrew Z. Fire, PhD, who was named a winner this morning of a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, will be available at a news conference at 10 a.m. at the James H. Clark Center Auditorium at Stanford University. Fire is a professor of pathology and of genetics at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He and Craig Mello, PhD, of the University of Massachusetts were given the award for their work with RNA interference and its uses in silencing specific genes in animal cells. The news conference will begin with welcoming remarks from Stanford University President John Hennessy, PhD. Then Philip Pizzo, MD, dean of the School of Medicine will introduce the Laureate. Fire will make a brief statement and then will be available for questions. Colleagues and Fire’s graduate students will also be available for interviews.
