If Iran went to war with the United States for some unforeseen reason such as the fact that Iran is building nuclear weapons to give to International Terrorists, supporting insurgents who are killing US and Coalition Troops in Iraq or is planning to blow Israel off the map, then who would prevail. And let’s hear an honest assessment void of political nationalistic pride and propaganda, shall we?First I would like to comment on Iran's inferior air force of 15 squadrons, with fewer aircraft in each than most all US Squadrons and older technology, hard to maintain and not well suited to the net-centric style warfare of the US forces. Next I would like to point out that Iran is un-defendable and surrounded by US Allies and one battle group could win a war against the Iranian military all by itself. Next Israel could easily take out all air defense systems and alleviate Iran of its nuclear program.A strike on Israel would mean a massive retaliation and loss of all in the million-man army. Supply lines, power, rail, roads would be decimated in a 5,000 sortie strike of one Aircraft Carrier Battle Group in under 36 hours. Mopping up would be easy and Iran would be limited rather quickly to soldiers walking with no food to meet allah. So all in all you analyst job is frightful because if they actually believe that they may end up with a set back of two millenniums and zeroed out on the Christian Calendar to repeat again. If Iran loses its pipelines to the refineries outside its country, then its monetary flows will stop and the cost to rebuild their civilization in the event of a large scale crisis will indeed render it broke, in debt and take decades to rebuild, but where will the other nations be then? Additionally, one should consider that Iran is too big of a power in the region and the world needs to reduce its military capability as it is threatening its neighbors and so it needs to have sunk its 170 marine vessel targets and all its Russian made anti-aircraft stuff, all those old tanks and all those Chinese rocket launchers. Perhaps this is of interest to you in 2007.
