"Internet User Beware" should be a warning label that comes on each new computer sold. There are many problems, challenges and horror stories on the Internet with Fraud, Identity Theft and even Child Predators. Indeed the issues of phishing, spyware, malware, adware, identity theft and outright fraud have actually surpassed the annual amount of dollars of even the illegal drug trade in the US. These problems are not going away, they are growing. It is alarming to think that the Internet has brought to the world the most efficient communication system in human history and yet it is so easily exploited by criminals, hackers and cyber crooks. It is unfortunate that something so great is so greatly abused. If we consider the amount of crime on the Internet along with the inconveniences caused by SPAM, Splogging, SPIT, which costs 100s of billions annually in lost productivity, you can begin to see the pending crisis. Then we are warned of the threats of cyber attack 911 style on our financial and banking systems and you might understand why governments, industry and military are preparing for that potential eventuality.Today we have good hackers and bad hackers and we have nation-states who are hiring hackers to potentially exploit large IT networks, Internet backbone infrastructures and bring entire countries to their knees. Worried yet? Well perhaps you should be, as your Internet privacy is at stake, not only from the bad guys, but from the good guys also as your privacy rights may not be so private as the good guys find ways to catch the crooks, hackers, spies and attackers.Of course with all this said we want the Internet to remain TAX Free and as regulation free as possible, because excessive regulation will ruin this communication system and drown it with the blog of bureaucracy nearly as fast as the criminals. There in lies the rub of Internet Fraud and Freedom in the Balance. This is a serious issue to all those using forums, Blogs, sending email, owning a website, buying thru the Internet, selling on ebay or doing online banking. These issues are especially serious for those running IT systems at work, for the government or in the military. I certainly hope you will enjoyed this article, as we take a look at the runway ahead. Perhaps this article is of interest to propel thought in 2007?
