2007 Military Strategy Study Sun Tzu; The Art of Painting the Enemy in the Modern Battlespace

By: Lance Winslow

How can you hit a target you cannot see? Once you see it how can you assure that it is friend or foe or neutral for that matter? How can we paint the enemy read and our allies blue? What color can we give to civilians, livestock or non-combatants?

If we are going to fight a guerilla style insurgency or radical fundamentalist enemy in close quarters then how can we set up the net-centric modern battlespace? How can we re-align our core competencies in such a way to leverage our superior force and technology against an enemy who appears like a smart mob out of the blue?

How do you fight a guerilla element that attacks and then quickly disassembles back into the population after using hit and run drive-by shooting tactics? How can we paint these enemy combatants read and track them so we can hunt them down and remove said problem? Well it may not be as hard as one thinks.

In fact the trick is to paint the enemy combatants and follow them wherever they go. Once we know where they are going we can indeed catch all their cohorts as well. One of the best methods to paint your enemy combatants is to capture a voice signature and then listen in to conversations via satellite or localized bugging devices or perhaps electronic voice communications.

Each time the voice is identified it is recorded and entered into a database of place and time. As more and more voices are captured and intersect, foiling a plot or plan may not be as tough as once thought. By painting the International Terrorists, we can distinguish them from the good guys and the innocent by-standards to insure we rid human civilizations of these criminal elements. I hope this article is of interest and helps propel thought in 2007.
