2007 The Case for Off-Shoring and Outsourcing

Most people decry the thought of the outsourcing of American Jobs and they call it the greed of the multi-national corporations looking for cheap labor and cost cuts at the expense of the middle class and union workers. They say that American corporations do not care about the American workforce and they claim that these corporations are destroying our economy and our nation. In reality this might be a little harsh considering that all these executives that run these corporations are also Americans and they believe in this country as much as the rest of us. In reality there are many factors for this growing trend of outsourcing.

With the current business climate in the United States of over-lawyering and over-regulation companies are caught in a huge dilemma and uncertain business risks. For instance they could be sued at any moment for some bizarre thing, that yesterday was common business practice or some government agency could start an investigation and send out press releases of a pending case and send their stock crashing. Obviously in such a business climate it makes sense outsource and off-shore as much as possible, yet in doing so this hurts the American Workforce. Now then whose fault is it?

Lou Dobbs and detractors of outsourcing would have you believe that the Corporations who outsource are evil and do not care about America. Indeed, I would suggest that America has turned its back on the Corporate Community and is causing this. There are of course risks associated with outsourcing, but the risks often are much less considering the alternative of being held out for ransom by unions, dealing with extortion from regulatory bodies or getting cut by the teeth of greedy lawyers, who have hijacked the law and end up filing class action lawsuits.
