Scientifically speaking mankind belongs to the animal kingdom, however many religions see humans as above the animals. In fact they see humans as a special species created by God. It is often this religious connotation, which causes conflict with science and makes it difficult to study other animals in the animal kingdom. This egocentric viewpoint that humans have often makes it difficult for them to understand that animals have similar emotions, desires and thought processes as human beings. In fact science has shown we are much more similar to other higher order mammals than ever previously thought.Debating these truths with any hard-core religious person with a stubborn personal belief system may indeed be a waste of breath. Nevertheless, the truth needs to be told for human scientists to realize what it means to be human and the similarities between our chimpanzee cousins and our pets.Denial of observation and scientific discovery that humans are very much like animals is unfortunate because it places restrictions and borders on our reasoning and thinking. Indeed it is obvious that humans do possess larger brains and more intellectual capacity, yet much of the rest of the functions of the brain including the behavior, needs and desires are very similar.I hope you will enjoy this thought-provoking discussion, overwhelming evidence and proof positive that humans are indeed animals. This concept may shake the core of your existence and belief system or you may simply be unwilling to take an honest luck at the case studies, observations and research. Either way whether you agree or disagree this debate needs to be brought forth into the open. Perhaps this article is of interest to propel thought in 2007?
