By: Jag Senghera

One of the most important parts in Public Speaking is your gestures. Movements of the head, body, arms, legs and feet are a necessary part of public speaking. Getting good with your gestures takes practice. However there are some ways to gain more control on your gestures while speaking. One of these ways is to practice as often as possible. You can learn more of how you can control your gestures at freespeakingguide.com for free. The most important parts of a body you can gain control are:

1. The Head

In public speaking you must always have you head well balances. When you have your head erected this means you are trying to convey joy, pride, or authority; when its upward you are expressing hope or prayer; when its downward your are intending to show shame, modesty, or reflection; when its forward, you are showing appeal, listening, sympathy or anticipation; when its backward you are surprise, terror or independence; when its shaking, your are expressing denial, discontent, or emphasis.

2. The face

Every emotion is express in the face. In public speaking you need to master this crucial part of the body. You need to really show your emotions through the face. Even if you don’t know what to do with your hands, if you don’t master your face in public speaking you wont have the audience attention.

3. The eyes

Sometime using your eyes to make an emphasis works well in public speaking. When they are wide open you are expressing joy, fear and surprise; when they are closed in faintness. When half-closed you are expressing hate and scrutiny.

4. The body

Your body should reflect and move in harmony with your presentation when public speaking. You front should always be faced to the audience in a 45 degree angle. Standing awkwardly you will express insecurities about your public speaking presentation. Always relax and move with the flow. Make sure you express confidence through your body.

5. The Hands and Arms

The hands are the most important tool you have to make a gesture in public speaking. Making a gesture with your arms will add a visual representation for your audience hence making it more interesting. All your hand gestures must be deliberate and slow enough for the audience to know what you are gesturing. Movements may be slow and gentle, slow and intense, swift and light, or swift and strong. The size, length, and velocity of a gesture depend upon the what you need to emphasize on.

With more practice on your gestures, you will gain more control and hence making your public speaking presentations more powerful and captivating. The key here is to practice as often as possible. Use the mirror in your room, practice all the gestures of your public speaking presentation many times before you actually present. More you practice the better you get and more natural you seem to be on stage. The best and professional public speakers practice all the time until it becomes natural for them. Remember the key is to practice.
