A Guide to The London Boat Show Exhibition

By: Catherine Gliddon

The Collins Stewart London Boat Show is no win its 55th year and this coming year takes place between the 9th and the 18th of January 2009, in the ExCel Centre in the London Docklands. The event attracts boat builders, sailing related companies and experts from a number of sea-related areas. With over 500 Exhibitors and 1000 boats, this is one of the largest annual boat Exhibitions in the UK and Europe and it continues to be a popular event.

A number of experts covering a wide range of skills and knowledge will be at the event and available for answering questions. Whether you are interested in rigging, varnishing, sails, marine instruments or safety equipment for boating, the show covers every conceivable area to do with marine and boating.

The exhibition is great in that it is normally acceptable for visitors to board the boats which are on display, many of which are impressively designed and very expensive. A lot of business tends to take place at this event and a number of boats do sell at the event and in terms of networking, this is a key event in the boating calendar, second perhaps only to the annual Southampton Boat Show.

This exhibition also tends to have a showcase area and last year this included a 'World's Boating Legends' area where some well-known figures in the boating industry shared their skills and knowledge with visitors to the show.

Last year the event was also graced by the presence of HRH Princess Royal, in her capacity as the president of Royal Yacht Association. There was an official luncheon in her honour followed by an official tour of the boats and yacht's on display. HRH Princess Royal has a long standing connection to the show and has not missed attending the show for many years.

The Collins Stewart London Boat show is all encompassing in that you can make a day of the show, with food and drinks also readily available for visitors in the ExCel food hall. The ExCel Centre has facilities which are also wheelchair friendly and there is plenty of parking available within walking distance of the exhibition halls. The venue also is within walking distance of some high standard hotels and in terms of access from abroad, London City Airport is a taxi ride away. London is also served with 3 large International airports in Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, in addition to the Eurostar train from Paris, France.
