A guide to attending exhibitions in Dublin, Ireland

By: Catherine Gliddon

Many of you who have companies in the UK and within Europe will at some point have the need to attend an exhibition in Dublin, Ireland. A number of exhibitions take place at the main venue, The RDS (Royal Dublin Society) Exhibition venue. Below we discuss some information which may be useful for those of you travelling to Dublin for an exhibition.

Getting to Dublin is possible by ferry or by air, although the majority of you will most likely find it easier to go by air than by boat. The Irish sea can be quite rough at times and the journey can be fairly long and tedious. Plus flying tends to cost no more than the ferry trip. Most of the main airlines fly into Dublin airport and from most of the main European cities. Dublin airport is also served by a number of budget airlines including Ryaniar, Easyjet and Jersey European.

From Dublin International Airport, getting to the RDS is relatively easy, although you are warned to allow plenty of time because of traffic. The centre of Dublin can get quite congested and traffic can be bad and with the RDS based on the edge of the city centre, traffic can be an issue. If you are travelling with a lot of items to transport then you might want to get a taxi direct from the airport to the venue. Otherwise there is an airport bus which takes you to the city centre and from you can jump on the Luas rail tri-system and this will take you the couple of stops to the venue. Just jump off of the bus at Heuston Station and then jump on the DART system and then go to Connolly station and to Ballsbridge.

There are several hotels located within walking distance of the RDS and these are close enough to the city centre if you are looking also to enjoy the evenings out. You might want to get accommodation a little closer to the main part of the city centre if enjoying your nights in Dublin is important to you. Temple Bar is the main area with bars and live music, but even staying in the Ballsbridge area might be sufficient with the main hotels having a bar and sometimes live music.

For finding exhibition equipment for your exhibition in Dublin, companies such as Clip Ltd in Ireland have an office in Dublin and thus you will be able to organise custom exhibition stands and graphics in time for your event, if you plan ahead.
