ADD-friendly systems often involve delegating the boring things that ADD people don't like to do, and sometimes, that involves paying someone to do those things. But we still use systems that don't involve hiring other people, which we used before we could afford to do that. However, the more systems we use, the more money we make, the more we can afford to hire people and put other things in place to make things happen. One system that is very inexpensive is a computer program called "Time and Chaos," which organizes and manages your daily routine. If you have ADD, you probably don't really have much of a daily routine, and that's the whole thing. Even if you use this program, you may do different things every single day, but everything is scheduled in. Schedule in work, meals, what time you're going to get up in the morning, when you're going to exercise--schedule it all in.You may not always stick to your schedule because of the ADD, but this will give you a very, very clear and easy-to-follow system that even comes with reminders. Your computer will make a sound and a popup window will pop up ten minutes before every appointment that you have, so that you can prepare and make sure you're ready for it. So it's very, very cool stuff.By scheduling like this, you're also taking time for yourself so that you can be at your best, and so that you can have that high level of energy because it takes a lot of energy to do what you're doing and run your business, and it's important that you schedule those things in so that you're not trying to catch up later. Because you know what happens – you forget to eat, then you're cranky, then you're sick, then it just goes downhill from there. So it's extremely important that you schedule those things in.But the key to this is that for every problem that you're facing, you can say to the people around you, "You guys, why don't you think about this? Don't you know I have to eat?" Or, instead of blaming somebody else, you can say, "Okay, something's not working; we need to change the system."Even after you start using an ADD-friendly system, you may need to change it. And that’s what it's all about. It's not that you put something into place and you have to stay so rigid to it. That won't suit ADD people at all. You have to be constantly looking and saying "What's working in my life; what's not working?" The things that are working--let them be. The things that aren't working, change the system. If you have ADD and are reading this, you may be thinking, I don't want the schedule, I don't want to have to wear a watch, and I don't want to be stuck to a calendar every day. Why? Because you probably think it means you can't be ADD creative. You may think it means that you're going to be stuck in a structure, and it's probably why you hate having a nine to five job, blah, blah, blah, right? ADD people are that way. All those feelings are relevant. But here's the thing: When you don't have to think about where your meals are going to come from, when you don't have to think, and you don't have to consider whether or not you went grocery shopping, when you don't have to keep track in your head of all of the different appointments and things that you have, and to avoid being late from these things and so on and so forth, when you don't have to think about all those things, when you implement a system that thinks about those things for you, you are able to be way more creative. All that clutter is out of your mindStart scheduling and see if it doesn't work out well for you. Force your ADD-self to try it for just a week. At the end of that time, you might just be amazed at how well it works out for you.
