In my opinion, affiliate marketing is something that should be used simply as an entry level step. Although it can provide come and does provide some people full-time income online, I believe that affiliate marketing should simply be used as a steppingstone into the arena of producing your own product. When I first got started online, I became an affiliate for number of different products, and begin to send traffic, my own list traffic, to affiliate pages. They converted at an average rate of 1%. Now, I understood this to be approximately average, and decided that I needed to do what ever was possible to drive more traffic to those webpages, and do it at such a price that at 1%, I could still turn a profit.However, I was still interested in creating my own products. So I wrote one. I wrote a book about list building, and included in it the things that I have learned, that I had to search high and low to find, and then I wrote a sales page.Keep in mind, I had never written a sales page before. Yes, I had studied writing sales pages. But I also understood that it is very difficult to write a compelling sales page.I sent that sales page out my list, and it converted at around 7%. That blew me away. I realized right away that there was a lot more value in creating my own products and promoting them to my own list and there wasn't sending traffic to affiliate pages. You see, the people on my list developed a bond with me, even though I was sending them to affiliate pages. Affiliate pages, the sales pages, are much better optimized for making money and making sales than mine are, but people only purchased at the rate of 1%. Now, my own sales pages converted around 4% to 7%, on a regular basis.Why? It is not because I am an awesome copywriter. It is because of the bond that I developed with those people on my list.So to me, the biggest think you can learn about affiliate marketing, is that affiliate marketing should be used to get you started. Once you are started, once you have built list, start writing your own books. It is not as hard as it seems. Learn to write a sales page. It is not as hard as it seems.
