Amp Resources(TM), LLC (Amp), a developer of renewable energy power plants and licensor of cleantech power generation technologies, today announced the engagement of a financial advisor and provided an update on its geothermal and waste heat power plant development activities. Amp has engaged Marathon Capital, LLC, an investment banking boutique with strong ties to the geothermal market, to explore strategic financial alternatives to expedite the company's geothermal development projects, waste heat business, and technology licensing program. "Amp Resources is virtually the only 'platform company' available within the U.S. geothermal segment," said Ted Brandt, CEO of Marathon. "A strategic partner will find in this single company the broadest portfolio of late-stage development projects available in the market today, a strong and experienced development team, and a proprietary technology, which in certain applications has the potential to dramatically increase thermal power generation efficiencies." Development of Geothermal & Waste Heat Energy Projects The company focuses on the generation of renewable electricity by optimizing geothermal resources. During the past four years, Amp has advanced four geothermal energy projects. The initial stages of these projects range from 11 to 36 MW, with a combined total of around 100 MW of geothermal-generated electricity. Amp has also developed a waste heat power plant model that utilizes the Kalina(R) power cycle technology to optimize low- and mid-range heat sources. Amp is initially targeting waste heat generated by the cement and alumina calcination industries. Amp is currently in late-stage project negotiations with global energy suppliers, industrial manufacturers, and niche-market engineering groups to take the company's waste heat model to market. Licensing Proprietary Energy Production Technologies Amp secured global licensing rights to the patented Kalina technology. Based on well-established binary transfer principles, Kalina employs a unique ability to control the mixture of industrial grade ammonia and water as its working fluid. This patented solution can provide more power in geothermal and waste heat power projects as compared to other technologies. Kalina allows lower temperature geothermal resources (200 F to 400 F), which have been historically viewed as unfeasible and uneconomical, to now be developed. Kalina's efficiency gains can provide increased profits over the 30 to 40 year life of the plant. In addition to employing the Kalina principal in projects owned and being developed by the company, Amp licenses Kalina to energy industry suppliers, developers and owner/operators. Delivering Highly Specialized Engineering Design and Development Services Amp has assembled a formidable management team, balanced by veterans of substantial energy project development and construction; patent-rich engineers and scientists; and successful entrepreneurial business leaders. Amp is leveraging the management team's relationships with global energy suppliers, engineering groups, financial institutions, regulation lobbyists and other energy service providers to expand the company's highly specialized engineering design and project development services. "Amp's business models and geothermal development projects reached their current maturity at a time when the energy market is experiencing extraordinary demands and focus," said Lyle Ball, VP marketing for Amp Resources. "Amp's years of preparation and multimillion-dollar investments in technology and geothermal project development have well-positioned the company to securely attach itself to the energy industry's most anticipated growth curve." About Amp Resources Amp Resources develops geothermal and waste heat energy projects, licenses proprietary cost-competitive thermal power cycle technology, and delivers highly specialized engineering design services and turnkey energy solutions to the global marketplace. The company focuses on the generation of zero-emissions electricity by developing internal and third-party renewable energy projects that employ industry-leading thermal energy technologies, including Kalina(R) -- a patented breakthrough thermal power cycle technology. Amp is a privately held company founded in 2002 as a Delaware Limited Liability Company with headquarters in Salt Lake City; an engineering center in Foster City, Calif.; and an operation center in Reno, Nev.
