Anger Management: Decide and Re-Decide and Re-Decide Again

By: Jeff Herring

Q: I've been working on not being angry and on deciding to not stay angry when I do get angry. But how do you keep from being angry again once you have decided to not be angry?

A: Well, the first thing I will tell you is this: You get angry, I get angry, all God's children get angry. It's a normal and natural human emotion. What is important and crucial is what you do with the anger once you feel it.

It sounds like you have been working hard to manage your anger instead of it managing you.

Decide and Re-decide

One way to keep the anger from creeping back once you have decided to no longer feel angry is to re-decide to no longer feel angry. Sometimes you have to decide and then re-decide and then re-decide again.

The question can then become how many times do I have to redecide? Well, as many times as it takes. Sometimes it can be several times over the same issue, or several times a day, or minute by minute.

Anger management is a very popular topic, there is even a movie with that title. The phrase you really want to use and master is anger mastery.
