Article Marketing; Staying Legal in Your Internet Traffic Targeting

By: Lance Winslow

Many online article marketers will pay someone such as a ghostwriter to write the articles for them and then at the bottom of the article there will be a byline stating that they wrote it. Sometimes the byline has a name of someone that does not even exist because it in fact a pen name. Perhaps you can see all the problems in this or perhaps you cannot. Let me explain to you why this is no good.

If someone else writes the article and you have a byline at the bottom stating that you are an expert in the subject and that you wrote the article then you are using deceptive trade practices in order to get people to click on the link and increase your Internet targeted traffic to your web site in order to sell something. That is considered a deceptive trade practice in advertising. It is against the law.

Now whether these rules and regulations are being enforced by the Federal Trade Commission right now is beside the point, as it is still illegal. Despite what some people think. This article-marketing niche does indeed straddle many online regulated industries and categories.

It is for that reason that anything that is not transparent is at risk of being targeted by consumer groups, Federal Agencies and regulators. Claiming ignorance of the law or stating that everyone else is doing it so I did it too; is simply not going to get you off the hook if you are used as an example by these agencies of their online enforcement. Please consider all this in 2006.
