If you are looking for a new and fun way to promote your photography business, try blogging! Blogs are simply “web logs” or online journals of sorts. You can post messages and images quickly and simply. Most blogs are free to create and maintain, and you can find them from a number of sources. Here are some ideas to get you started:1. Announce your blog to your current customers. Let them know that reading your blog is the best way to stay informed about current happenings at your studio.2. Advertise any sales or special events such as holiday portrait sessions, displays you have around town, new products you are featuring, etc.3. Include your blog address on your business card along with your other contact info. Also include it in your email signature file.4. Display favorite images from recent sessions (make sure you have a model release) and describe where they were taken, etc.5. Describe ways to display portraits in the home to enhance interior design.6. Offer discounts especially for blog readers (“mention my blog and receive a 10% discount on your session fee”…or “mention this blog and receive a free 8x10 of any image from your session!” etc.)7. Offer simple photography tips for “point and shoot” users. Your customers will appreciate them.8. Make sure to have a link to your blog from your website.9. Offer clothing tips (“what to wear to your photo session”) etc.10. Finally, don’t be afraid to get personal. Little tidbits of what’s going on in your life make you more “real” to your customers!
