One of the quickest ways to boost traffic to your web site is with PPC advertising. It’s easy to set up, economical in that you only pay when someone clicks through to your site, and its fast. Although many sites offer PPC advertising, a good example of PPC advertising is Google’s AdWords. AdWords is the PPC ads that appear on the right hand side of a Google search. With AdWords, you can quickly create a short ad indexed to a selection of search “keywords.” Depending on amount of advertising you want, and on the geography of the search, whenever those keywords are used, your ad will show up on the right-hand side of the search page. You pay a fee whenever someone clicks through your ad.In the case of AdWords, the frequency of your ad and the position in which it appears on the right side of the page are determined, respectively, by your total budget (the bigger the budget, the higher the frequency) and your “bid” per click. In effect, you “bid” for position. Someone that bids $2.00 per click will show up higher on the list to the right than someone that bids $1.00 per click. Yahoo’s Search Marketing (previously Overture) works the same way.PPC advertising is an excellent way to get into market quickly. It’s also an excellent way to burn through advertising dollars indiscriminately if you don’t have a sound internet marketing strategy. So before you launch your PPC campaign make sure you’ve selected your keywords and target locations carefully and make sure you know what to do with those click-throughs!
