Generally courses offered by the British colleges are divided into academic, vocational, technical and professional ones. The UK qualification system is divided into six levels. They are: NVQ 1 level which is applied if a student does not have no experience or previous training in the area of work; the second Intermediate level is presented in both academic and vocational courses, while GCSE academic courses are offered for those students who do not have a good school leaving qualification vocational GNVQ courses are applied by students who do not have an initial vocational qualification or if they do not have relevant previous experience; the third Advanced level offers both academic and vocational courses as well, academic courses are presented at A (Advanced) and AS (Advanced Subsidiary) levels and are suitable for those students who do not have a good school leaving qualification, advanced vocational courses are for those who have an initial qualification in that vocational area or if a student has some relevant experience; the forth level is available only for those who have a good leaving qualification and or a suitable English language qualification, so as vocational level is available only for those students who have enough vocational qualification equivalent and relevant experience.At all four levels is it possible to take English courses such as English for International Students (EIS) courses including the Cambridge First, Advanced and proficiency Certificates and IELTS as well.While the first three levels are applied to gain sufficient scores for school leaving certificates the next three levels are equal to university grades and can get university qualifications and higher education graduate diplomas.
