Cancer: Understanding the Body and the Need for Change to Heal

By: Chris Teo, Ph.D.

There are a few facts about cancer which many people seem to miss.

One, cancer is not a disease, as a result of catching a bug. It is a manifestation of internal imbalance and an immune system going haywire.

Two, life itself produces cancer cells. Everyday millions and millions of cells are being produced to replace the worn out cells. Biologically some of these cells turn out to be “poor or defective” copies of the healthy cells. Eventually the “bad” copies turn into cancer cells. It is said that all of us produce “cancerous cells” everyday.

Three, our body has the capacity to monitor and destroy these “poor” cell copies. As a result these “bad” copies do not get to become full-blown cancer cells.

Jon Craig, a physicist who suffered from lymphoma wrote in his book (A Cancer Survival Plan) the while undergoing treatment he asked his oncologist what had cause his cancer and what he could do to prevent a recurrence. Unfortunately, the doctor had no answer! Indeed, the job of his doctor is to treat the disease. Medical science does not deal with cultivating and preserving health. Jon Craig used two terminologies: CCPR which stands for Cancer Cell Production Rate and ISKC meaning Immune System Killing Capacity. In each of us, cancer cells are being produced and if the rate of cancer production is high and the killing capacity of the immune is low, then we may end up with more cancer cells in the body. That is how we get cancer.

So, in essence cancer patients have compromised immune system in the body to begin with. Antibiotics, steroids, radiation or chemo-drugs cannot cure such problem. In fact, all these destroy the immune system instead. You may end up worse than you were before.

When you go for surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, the aim is to reduce the population of cancer cells. If the CCPR = ISKC, there is a remission or cancer is under control. This is a situation where the number of cancer cells are reduced to a low enough number or even eliminated (temporarily?) so that the immune system is able to cope with them again. But to achieve this situation is just a half a job done or half a battle won. If the immune system is not strengthened, the cancer cells will grow back. So you get a relapse.

To achieve and maintain good health we must not only aim at CCPR=ISKC. We must ensure that our immune system becomes stronger and stronger so that the Immune System Killing Capacity of the body far exceeds the Cancer Cells Production Rate. To be able to do this the old lifestyle that promotes cancer must be abandoned. You must change for a new, healthy lifestyle. If you are not prepared to change there is no way that you can reverse the tide of cancer growing and spreading in your body.

Let us be reminded again, the treatments that kill cancer cells are only half-done jobs. That is why most patients suffer relapses after an apparent successful treatment.
