Candy And Recognition Make A Sweet Combination

By: Michael Lerner

If you are one of thousands of people planning for one of the many national recognition events this spring, you no doubt know that this little task or "favor" you signed up for may be more of an effort than you thought it would be.

Well, if you are the lead planner for your organization's upcoming volunteer, teacher or nurse recognition celebration, here are a few tips:

Make it fun
You might be recognizing your hard working professionals for the work they do, but the time you set to honor them should be festive. Play music, give out special awards for milestones and organize contests. Have your staff members bring in pictures when they were young and have a "guess the baby" contest. You want them to know that this is a celebration of the time and effort they bring to your hospital, school or organization.

Choose the right environment
Have your party in a place that is away from the work floor if possible. Celebrate in your cafeteria, lounge or outside picnic area. And make sure to decorate with balloons, posters and place settings if you are serving a meal.

Make sure there are treats
No party is complete without good eats. Serve cake, donuts, ice cream and provide candy favors. Adding a little sweetness to your event will make it all the more memorable. Your staff members will look back and know you cared enough to make them feel special.

Remember these important national recognition events:

  • National Volunteer Week - April 18-25
  • Teacher Appreciation Week - May 5-12
  • National Nurses Week - May 12-19
