Counterfeiting of $5 Bills in Canada - Big Concern

Counterfeiting is a huge problem in the world whether it is done by international terrorists or rogue nation states. One of the most counterfeited currencies is of course the United States currency, probably because is one of the most respected currencies, however we are not alone with counterfeit problems.

In fact Canada is very worried about counterfeiting and they have seen an increase in the counterfeiting of five-dollar notes. The Bank of Canada is fighting the counterfeiters and they are upgrading the five-dollar note. They are using much of the same techniques that the United States uses on its Federal Reserve notes in the $20 and $10 denominations.

The new Canadian five-dollar bill will have raised surfaces of the large number “five” on the printing. In the future you will be able to tilt the five-dollar bill and see holographic stripes and the windowed color shifting thread. There will also be a watermark portrait and security threat so you can see through the number. There will also be fine line printing in the portrait and background patterns.

The Bank of Canada is hoping this will prevent counterfeiters from messing around with the currency. As technology gets better and better the counterfeiters are finding ways to copy the banknotes. Counterfeiting is a huge problem in the world and these problems must be dealt with. Please consider all this in 2006.
