Setting up your own business can be a very profitable venture, but in order to establish a business with a physical location you will have to be able to afford the location you choose. You will be less likely to buy fast food for meals on the run, will be able to move around or get some form of physical exercise when you feel that you need it, and will generally be subject to less stress overall because of your more relaxed work environment.

Establishing a Virtual Office

In order to set up a virtual office, you should begin by making sure that you have a computer (either a laptop or a desktop PC) that has sufficient memory, processing, and storage capabilities to handle whatever sort of work you plan on doing. You will also need internet access, software for word processing, databases, and other common office programs, and possibly additional software to make group work easier if you plan on working with others in the virtual office. After that, you will need a telephone, some sort of fax capability (though a computer scanner can work well in this regard), and the beginnings of a record keeping system for tax information and receipts. Contact the IRS or a legal consultant to find out any specific information that deals with operating a home-based business over the internet, and you might also consider hiring an accountant for payroll and tax payment purposes. In order to make the organization of your virtual office easier, you also might want to hire a virtual assistant… these are individuals who do freelance secretarial and administrative work and then allow you to access schedules and records online. Once you have reached this point, all that you will need is for work to start coming in so that your virtual office can start to turn real profits.
