Do Natural Aphrodisiacs Exist?

The notion has been around for generations -- there are natural aphrodisiacs in the universe. A pinch of this, a dash of that, a handful of these, then step back and watch the fire burn. Is there any truth to it?

Maybe.

Before humanity, in all its wisdom and talent, created manufactured drugs, there were many naturally found remedies in use; and some of those age-old remedies are still being used today, though almost always in what is referred to as “alternative therapy”: an unregulated form (at least in the US) of medical treatment. And that could be part of the problem. As society has advanced, as new ways of doing things have been found and implemented and accepted, the old stuff that used to work has been tossed aside, or forgotten. There could be a damn good natural aphrodisiac lying on a trash pile somewhere.

Or not.

There are some “natural” aphrodisiacs of the morbid variety in use, such as a tiger’s penis. Yes, there are some who believe that consuming tiger’s penis will enhance virility. And male tigers have been slaughtered so that their genitals could be used as an aphrodisiac. Now, anyone who would contribute to this practice -- slaughtering this awesome, endangered animal or consuming its genitals in the hopes of improving their sex life -- is an absolute zero. But that’s just my opinion.

With respect to aphrodisiacs that occur naturally, and don’t contribute to forms of mutilation and death, well, there’s nothing out there that’s universally accepted. That doesn’t mean they aren’t there: some sly guy living on an island somewhere may know the natural aphrodisiac secret, but he ain’t sharing it with the rest of us. There are the old tried and true physical stimulators, of course: body parts, smells, naughty talk. Nothing wrong with any of them: they’ve all worked well for centuries, and many of us are here today because eyes can see, noses can smell, and ears can hear. But if you’re looking for the concentrated, high potency stuff -- passion on demand -- it’s unlikely you’ll find it growing under a tree somewhere.

You’ll just have to buy it on the Internet, like the rest of us.
