Do You Want The Worst Return Imaginable On Your Money

It would seem that much of the country would like just that. Many people are out there consciously looking for the worst return imaginable for their money. Take the lottery for example. How many people do you know that have gotten wealthy by playing the lottery? I'm going to venture a guess, and say that it's the same amount of people that I've met in my entire life, that have gotten wealthy off of the lottery…..NONE! Yet people continue to plunk down their dollar or three every day. It's like I told a friend of mine, "Bob, you'd be better off eating that dollar everyday. At least that way your body might get some value out of it."

I'm a resident of the complete backwards thinking, but trout filled state of Montana. And in Montana there are these wonderful little machines in many establishments called video Poker and video Keno machines. The premise is this: You feed these machines paper currency like you were feeding a three year old fruit snacks, and for the currency you receive "credits" to play video poker and/or keno. Then the machine flashes a lot and makes a lot of noise, and takes your money. Over a period of time, this is what happens. Yet people continue to feed these machines, claiming that it's simply entertaining.

I've literally seen people lose everything they have playing these stupid machines. It's amazing. All in the hopes of getting something for nothing. And in Montana the jackpot that these things pay out is $800! You're not even playing for a life changing amount of money. It's insane!

I have a friend who's pretty deep into playing these machines, and he uses, what I consider to be the gambling line of the century, anytime I ask him how he did. As if feeding these machines money is doing something. His answer is almost always the same, "I'm about even". The theory here must be, if I'm even it's alright. The problem is that I know he's not even. If he and anyone else were about even, there would be none of these establishments. He's willingly getting the worst return imaginable on his money, that's what's really happening.

These principles are the same in any part of the world. Anytime you willingly give your money to a casino, you are voluntarily getting the worst return imaginable for your money; it's as simple as that. I have an interesting question: If there was no alcohol served in casinos, how much business would it cost them? Chew on that for a while.
