Drive The Back Country - Safely

By: Anthony Greene

Living in the northern part of the state of Florida opened my eyes to the hilly and sometimes treacherous terrain associated with getting to sites in the forest.

During one of my more adventurous jobs for a major cellular phone service provider. While scouting sites for a new cell tower construction, I was left in the lurch by a truck that was a four-wheel drive. If I had an ATV from a Can-Am ATV dealer I’m sure I could have had an opportunity to save myself from having to wait to be rescued by a fellow co-worker. That experience helped me gain some valuable experience when going into the back country. From that experience I was able to convince the head of operations to keep an ATV on lease from a local Can-Am ATV dealer. Whether you go hunting or not and sometime go camping, being able to rescue your own self out of a tough situation is essential.

That previous experience with not having the atv available taught me a very valuable lesson in self-preservation. what you may ask is, well didn't you have a cellphone. And yes i did have a cellphone but remember there were no towers available to receive signal. I was en route to turning up the tower to enable a circuit to be live. Needless to say i made it essential to all of of our employees to go on a scouting mission of the site prior to committing to turn up sites in the back country of Florida.
