Dynamic Solutions International (DSI), a leading international provider of data storage solutions and comprehensive professional services for mid- to large-size enterprises, today announced that West Suburban Bank, a full-service bank serving Illinois, has replaced its tape system with DSI’s virtual tape appliance, significantly reducing the time and resources required for backup. West Suburban Bank implemented DSI’s DSI9000 Virtual Tape Appliance in August 2006. The DSI virtual tape appliance allows West Suburban to replicate data across the enterprise to off-site locations, eliminating transportation and secure courier services required for transporting tapes while increasing the speed and efficiency of its backups. Before implementing DSI’s virtual tape appliance, West Suburban used a combination of six different tape mediums to backup more than 50 open system servers and six mainframe applications. Each backup needed to be manually started and monitored then repeated a second time to create the required duplications. “The amount of data we are able to replicate at high speeds is remarkable,” said Steve Jennrich, vice president of information systems, of West Suburban Bank. “Based on our experiences with DSI’s VTL appliance, we believe virtual tape is the future. It completely satisfies our needs surrounding speed, data management, security and cost effectiveness.” With DSI’s virtual tape appliance, West Suburban has reduced multiple storage mediums to two, spinning disk and LTO3 tape, making data storage more cost effective, further decreasing storage costs. DSI enables West Suburban to keep multiple generations of the bank’s tape history, as well as establish different backup and retention strategies based on data classification. In addition to reducing costs, DSI’s versioning and data management allows West Suburban to keep data longer and access it in ways previously not possible. Built for users wanting to backup and restore data at high speeds, DSI’s 9000 series of virtual tape appliances reduce administrative time and costs by requiring fewer tapes and providing faster backups. Additional features include scalable capacity, flexible host connectivity, seamless integration with existing backup processes, and remote replication capabilities for backups and archiving. “Recognizing that storage plays a crucial role in West Suburban’s business, we created a repository for open systems data as well as legacy and mainframe data, allowing for easy review of critical backups,” said Chris Johnson, vice president storage solutions at DSI. “VTL provides West Suburban with an affordable way to keep data secure without the hassle and maintenance costs of large, obsolete tape backup systems.” About West Suburban Bank Founded in 1962, West Suburban Bank (parent company West Suburban Bancorp) is headquartered in Dupage County, Illinois.
