What happens if you buy an item on eBay but the seller isn't responding or doesn't contact you after the auction. It happens quite regularly, especially when the seller is hoping to get a higher final auction price for their item. Sometimes sellers don't place reserve prices on auctions to encourage bidders, but the tactic backfires and for some other reason the listing doesn't receive the number of bids that the seller is expecting.Even in these situations, the seller is obliged to sell the item to the highest bidder. Offering an item for auction on eBay does create a legal binding contact when a bid is placed & an auction is won.So, what happens if you win an auction and the seller doesn't respond.Firstly, you should make all efforts to contact the seller. You can do this by requesting the contact details of the seller by doing an eBay advanced search and entering the sellers name and item number. This information should include the name, address, email address and phone number of the seller. Obviously you should use your discretion and wait a few days before you use this method, while waiting to see if the seller contacts you.If after speaking to the seller, they are still unable to complete the sale the only official option you have is to report them to eBay as a non performing seller. You can report a seller to eBay, as a non performing seller for refusing to accept payment, failing to deliver an item for which payment has been received or by misrepresenting an item which is delivered. If enough buyers report the seller as a non performing seller, action will be taken against their account. eBay will not force the transaction to be completed, but if you feel strong enough it may be worth taking to citizens advice or a solicitor to clarify your legal position.
