I am a newbie to this email marketing thing. My first big list I started just two months ago, and I am still learning. I consider myself successful - each of the last two months and now my projected third month incomes are up, on a per subscriber basis. But I am not so sure that email open rates are dictated by the success of headlines.I think long term email open rates are driven by the expected content of the emails.Where does a content expectation come from?Content expectation is a result of the subscribers’ recent experience with the content of recent past emails. So if we were to apply scientific statistical analysis techniques to the email open rate, I think we would find that the impact of past opened emails and the quality of their respective contents has a much larger impact on the expected email open rate of future email deliveries than the impact of the current headline.Where do I get this crazy idea?Think about your own email open patterns.Does the sender of the email or the subject headline make more of an impact on your decision to read the email? Now before you make a hasty decision based on the incumbent prolific indoctrination by marketers selling headline creation courses, think about which emails you opened this morning, yesterday morning, and the morning before that.Did you open emails written by the same internet marketers? I think so. You know so. Was it because you read the headlines and thought they were better than anybody else’s? Or is it because your past experience has indicated that you receive superior content from the internet marketers whose emails you tend to open?I know this is deep. If you doubt what I am writing, reread this, then print it out and reread it tomorrow morning immediately after you open your morning emails. If I’m right, paypal me a tip along with your revelation.
