Email marketing is one of the most effective things we can do online, and yet many don’t know the most effective email marketing techniques and tips. Let this be your email marketing warning!Don’t be a pest! Don’t send you daily or even weekly updates to your customers unless it is absolutely vital that you do so. People do not like to be bombarded with information, and too much contact will cause them to feel invaded. Likewise, make sure you clearly give customers an “opt out” option, where they can choose to unsubscribe to your emails at any time. In addition to reinforcing your business as trustworthy and sensitive to your customers’ needs, analyzing the number of “opt-outs” you receive could provide you with some valuable information about your email campaign. Perhaps you are being pushier than you think and it’s time to scale back a bit.But do should you send your email to? For that, you’ll need to generate an email list. A list can contain information as basic as your customers’ names and email addresses, but it may be more useful to collect more detailed information like their age, sex, hobbies, annual income, etc. This information can then be entered into a database.Collecting this information can be achieved through telephone calls (via customer service), or you can use your invoices to advertise a product that may be of interest to your customers. If they are interested, they can sign up to receive it online and you can ask them demographic questions there. Alternatively, you could try building a list through lead generation programs, banner ads, or other forms of internet advertising.
