In Ernest Hemingway's works we wanted to describe the main principle of his creation. We looked up at the opening of this principle in his works such as "A Farewell to Arms", "The Sun Also Rises", "For whom the Bell Tolls". "The Sun Also Rises" tells of the moral collapse of a group of expatriated Americans and Englishmen, booked by the war, who turn toward all possible violent diversions. Success in fictional craftsmanship and in portraying the mind of an era was again achieved in "A Farewell to Arms", it was set in Italy in World War I, and is a tragic love story. It's a poignant love story of an English nurse and an American ambulance lieutenant during the war.

He used the war as the background of "For whom the Bell Tolls". This novel is about an idealistic American fighting against the fascist forces in Spain.

War had also affected Ernest Hemingway. Having seen violence and death close at hand Hemingway adopted a moral code exalting simple survival and the basic value of strength, courage and honesty.

In his own writing he cut out all unnecessary words and complex sentence structures concentrating on concrete objects and actions.

His main characters were usually tough and silent men good at sports or war but awkward in their dealings with.

In this work we are asked to describe the main principle in the creation of such writer as Hemingway. It is called the principle of iceberg.

Reading these novels we can see, that situation is not very difficult and form is simple. But we should read between lines. Reading in this case we can see not only situation, we can see the main problems, feelings that persons could not describe. These are the "reefs".

This principle consists of expressing the main problems and different situations in the lives of ordinary people. We can see after-effects of such a dangerous thing as war.
