Exploring the Real Cost of Cheap Printing and What it Can Do to Your Budget

By: Joel Owens

When looking at your printing cost, you have to remember that it works with a different dynamics. With wholesale cheap printing, you can afford to print double the quantity without paying a double price. In most cases, you only have to pay for a fraction of the price even to get more times your original order.

The cost of paper in ink is less important than the plating, setup, and related costs. These fixed costs are spread evenly over the number of pieces you order, so the more pieces you order the lower the cost per individual unit.

This price dynamics have a big repercussion in your printing decisions. Going for an extended print instead of reordering will give you a substantial price discount. On the other hand, having more prints than you need may incur additional cost for you in terms of shipping and handling fees, your storage and distribution costs.

When deciding the volume of print ads you need the most important thing to assess is the return on investment. In this case, you may have to go back to studying your marketing plan and business model:

1. How many potential customers do you have?

Expanding the scale of your advertising is only necessary when you know that there are other prospects out there you fail to address. Second, if you think the existing channels of communication will effectively bring your marketing materials to them.

Printing thousands of advertisements when you are targeting a hundred or so within the community you’re advertising in is like hitting a fly with a sledgehammer. You spend extra dollars without bringing in additional money.

2. How far do you intend to reach?
There is a threshold for how far regular customers are willing to travel to acquire the goods and services they need. For groceries, this threshold is shorter while niche products and specialty items can go much further.

If you’re offering commodity items, you should expect to cater to clients in a nearby proximity. You can extend this proximity a little when you provide a value added to your services like a comprehensive product list for instance, but you still can’t expect people from other states to visit. In this context, you have to limit your advertising to closer vicinity.

3. How will you distribute your print ads?
When you use your print ads for direct mail marketing, you should consider the costs involved. The discount you get from wholesale printing may be reflected in the savings you get from bulk mail, but the overall discount for larger volume is negligible. In addition, you may have to pay for the additional names from the mailing list services.

Those handed out to passers-by require an employee to spend time outside and hand out these flyers or brochures. The time and cost you spend in giving away your print ads should also be factored in when you’re computing the actual cost of your advertising campaign.

Wholesale cheap printing is a good way to extend your marketing scope as it makes printing so much cheaper than you otherwise would have to pay. There is other cost though you have to study overall before you order in large volumes.
