Fat Teenagers Lose Weight

By: Christain Cullen

Teenagers and pre-teens can often find they put on a great deal of weight. This is primarily down to their body’s natural storing function, when it is in anticipation of serious growth. Likewise, when reaching the end of their development, their bodies can store up weight, although this is usually a genetic pre-disposition. Other reasons for weight increase can simply include lifestyle issues, such as a poor diet, or less exercise. With a sensible, target-orientated approach, these problems can be effectively treated to ensure that weight gain does not become a problem.

It is important to initially plan your teenager’s weight loss programme with him or her. Start by discussing the benefits of losing weight, and try not to be too patronizing or offensive – the last thing you want is to upset your teen and put them off altogether. Make sure you are both on the same wave length, and make sure they know how important it is to remain healthy. Next, devise a menu for the week encompassing all the various elements necessary to retain a balanced diet. A good tip is to introduce five meals a day. Yes, you heard correct – five smaller meals spaced evenly throughout the day is better than three large ones if you’re looking to lose weight, primarily because it keep your metabolism ticking and your body burning calories throughout the day. After you have finalized your plan, it is important you stick to it, and make sure that you are also following the plan to support your teenager through his or her programme.

The next element essential for weight loss is some form of exercise. Why not simply encourage a walk to and from school? An hour’s brisk walking every day is enough to help shed the pounds, and when combined with a healthy diet, you’ll see results in no time, and your teenager will inevitably feel better about themselves and more confident. It is important that exercise never becomes a chore, but is rather a time to reflect on the days events, or a time to enjoy the peacefulness of being away from homework, or whatever. It is crucial that exercise doesn’t become a dirty word, for the health of your teenager now, and in later life.

On top of these steps, it is important to keep your teenager interested. This can be achieved by setting goals and targets, and rewarding meeting these goals. It is important that your teenager knows that he or she is progressing along the right lines, and this can make a real difference to their drive and determination. By adopting a strategic approach to weight loss, and ensuring you monitor and chart the results, you can keep your teenager motivated, and leave them feeling and looking great, not to mention the good you’ll be doing to their health.
