Everybody loves burgers cooked in the backyard. But, you can't eat the same old burgers all the time, so here are the 5 best burger recipes I could find. I have cooked and enjoyed them all. See how they sound to you. Grilled Inside-Out Southwestern Cheeseburgers- Serves 4 Next to my wife and my mother, Betty Crocker is my favorite woman. This recipe came from her website, bettycrocker.com. You'll need: 1 1/2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion 2 tablespoons drained Old El Paso chopped green chiles (from 4.5-oz can) 8 slices pepper Jack cheese, 2x1x1/4 inch (about 4 oz) 4 kaiser rolls, split 1/4 cup Old El Paso taco sauce or Old El Paso Thick 'n Chunky salsa Prepare as follows: Light and heat your grill. Mix the beef, the onion and the chiles. Make 8 thin patties. Top each of 4 patties with 2 slices of cheese. Place the remaining 4 beef patties on top and pinch the edges to seal securely. Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover the grill and cook for 14 to 16 minutes, turning once. Remove when the burgers are slightly firm when pressed in the middle. Add rolls, cut sides down, for last 4 minutes of grilling or until toasted to your taste. Serve the burgers on rolls, covered with taco sauce. Zesty Burgers- Serves 4 This is one of the many great recipes I encountered at http://southernfood.about.com. You will need: 1 to 1 1/4 pounds of lean ground beef 1/4 cup of chopped onion 2 tablespoons of green pepper, finely chopped 3 tablespoons ketchup 1 tablespoon of prepared horseradish 1 teaspoon of salt 2 teaspoons of prepared mustard 1 dash of pepper your favorite burger toppings 4 split buns, toasted Prepare as follows: Combine the ground beef with onion, green pepper, ketchup, horseradish, salt, mustard, and pepper. Mix together lightly. Shape the mixture into 4 patties about a half inch thick. Cook for 5-7 minutes per side, depending on how well done you like your burgers. Serve, with topping, on buns. Texas Stuffed Grilled Burgers- Five Servings I found this mouth watering recipe at allrecipes.com. Required ingredients: 5 pounds of (lean) ground beef 6 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 2 teaspoons hickory seasoning (suggestedl) salt & pepper to taste 2 cups of chopped onion 2 cups chopped fresh mushrooms 2 cups chopped cooked ham 3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese Preparation directions: Preheat a grill for high heat. When the grill is hot, lightly oil the grate. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, hickory seasoning, salt and pepper until well blended. Make 8 or 10 balls, and flatten into patties. On one half of the patties, distribute the onions, mushrooms, ham and cheese. Carefully cover the piles with the remaining patties, making sure to seal all of the edges of the patties together tightly and enclose the filling. Grill the patties for 8 to 10 minutes per side, or until meat is well done, and cheese in the center is melted. Marinated Hamburgers This unique recipe comes from razzledazzlerecipes.com. Shop for: 3 T. Lemon Juice 1 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt 1 T. Worcestershire sauce 1 T. soy sauce 1 T. A-1 sauce 1 T. oil 1/2 C. beef broth 1 tsp. Heinz 57 sauce 1/4 tsp. garlic salt 1 tsp. vinegar To prepare: Combine the ingredients. Shape 1-1/2 bounds of ground beef into patties. Put the burgers in a covered container and pour the marinade over them. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from marinade and sear over high heat to seal in the juices. Get together: a pound and a half of hamburger a quarter cup of finely diced onion two eggs, beaten lightly three quarters of a cup of soft bread crumbs a quarter cup of ketchup one half teaspoon of salt an eighth of a teaspoon of pepper two tablespoons butter one half pound of sliced mushrooms six Swiss cheese slices Proceed as follows: Mix well the first 7 ingredients and form into twelve 1/4 inch thick patties. Melt the butter and saute the mushrooms lightly in it. Place on 6 of the patties. Top with remaining patties and seal edges. Grill or broil the patties to your preference. Top them with cheese.
