Flathead Lake – The Vacation Of A Lifetime

If you've never heard of Flathead Lake and you're considering a vacation, it may be worth looking into. Flathead Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi river and many people have never heard of it. It's nestled in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, which makes the scenery more than adequate for any traveler. Flathead Lake can definitely provide the vacation of a lifetime.

Flathead Lake is 15 miles wide, 32 miles long, and as deep as 350 feet in places. Yep, it's a big lake. And for those of you that are used to the congestion that many lakes in our country provide, Flathead Lake will seem empty most of the time. It's not uncommon to only see 3 or 4 boats other than right around the launching area. Flathead Lake is as un-congested as any lake you'll ever see.

During the warm months all water sports are in full effect. Water skiing, wake boarding, tubing, swimming, diving, parasailing, sail boating, and fishing are all popular activities. The only downfall to the lake is when the weather gets bad. When the weather gets bad, Flathead Lake can become like a mini-ocean, and you don't want to get caught on it in a small boat.

The fishing on Flathead Lake is quite good, and the lake boasts one of the best Lake Trout fisheries in the country. There are guides throughout the area that can help you catch trophy lake trout. There are even large charter boats that hold more than 20 people! So if fishing is what interests you, Flathead Lake can provide it.

The scenery that the lake provides is as good as you will see anywhere. The beauty of the surrounding mountains is hard to beat. If you're looking for a quick day trip during your vacation, hiking trails are scattered throughout the mountains that surround the lake. And for the more adventurous folks, Glacier National Park is only about 40 miles from Flathead Lake. All in all, Flathead Lake is a wonderful vacation destination and the place to be if you're interested in anything that has to do with outdoor activities. You will never run out of things to do, and if you time your trip correctly, you may even get to enjoy some delicious Flathead Lake cherries
