Games, Movies and More in iTunes 7

Apple has updated iTunes, ushering in the seventh generation of its popular digital media-management software. iTunes 7 offers a host of features seemingly inspired by user requests, including true –and automated – gapless playback, which also extends to the burning of albums from iTunes to a CD. Additional customer-focused improvements include the capacity to automatically search for and download album art through the software.

A key new feature answers another criticism of the media management software. Users can now use their iPod to synchronise music libraries on their authorised computers. When the iPod is connected to a machine authorised to use music from your collection, but that doesn’t have all the music you own installed on it, iTunes will automatically suck the songs from your iPod and add them to the music library.

The iTunes store has also been improved, with a new, cleaner interface and new navigation features. Owners of 5G iPods can now buy games for their players direct from the service for £3.99 each. These games play only on iPods, they cannot be played within iTunes (though video previews are available).

Apple also began its first steps toward launching a movie download service, offering 75 films from Disney and its movie brands (which now include Pixar).

The new movie download service won’t be available in the UK or Europe for a while though.
