New York Giants have reach an agreement with 44-year-old punter Sean Landeta to a contract as insurance on the ground that it remains undetermined if Jeff Feagles will be able to play after injuring his knee in the NFC East showdown against Dallas.Previously, Landeta played on both of the Giants' Super Bowl championship teams under Bill Parcells.Despite the injury, Feagles, 40, is still hoping to be able to play his 300th consecutive NFL game on Sunday joining Atlanta's Morten Anderson (361), Gary Anderson (353), George Blanda (340) and Jerry Rice (303) as the only players in NFL history to appear in 300 games. Feagles explained on Saturday that he had soreness in his knee and he is under heavy treatment. He expressed his determination to play the game though.If Feagles has to sit out this game, Landeta will replace him on the roster punting for the Giants for the first time since 1993. It is a come back for the player who spent eight seasons with the Giants between 1985 and 1993. Last season, he played in five games for the Philadelphia Eagles, averaging 38.3 yards. The Giants had to drop defensive tackle Lance Legree to make some room for Landeta. The latter took part in a scrimmage on Saturday.As for Feagles, he participated in the practice the entire week. But he felt soreness in his right kicking knee after Friday's workout and was sent for tests. Feagles had been diagnosed a flare-up of his degenerative arthritic knee. He underwent full treatments on Friday night and Saturday.Feagles and Landeta are the two most prolific punters in NFL history. Indeed both are 1-2 in all the major statistical categories. For instance, Feagles registered a career 1,487 punts placing him first in NFL history. But Landeta is second with 1,401. Again, Feagles has 61,881 punting yards placing him first, Landeta is second with 60,707. Feagles is first with 471 punts inside the 20-yard line, Landeta is second with 381.
