A child is a beam of sunlight from the Infinite and Eternal, with possibilities of virtue and vice - but as yet unstained. - Lyman Abbott (1835-1922, American congregational clergyman and editor)Kids or teens always run to play in the ground. Parents naturally shout to concentrate on their studies. If this is during examinations both parents and kids feel the stress due to their priorities demanded by the situation. Students must study during study time and play during play time, but mostly feel that they have to concentrate on their studies to get the grades required for further studies and better future.High School and Elementary students feel the pressure from their peers to become fit or be cool. This kind of pressure creates an impression that you must be one or another. You must be smart or you should become an athlete. This article discusses the importance of Sports as well as Studies and how to balance both for a secure future.Believe it or not, academics relate to athletics! Many sports games rely on logic and memorization. Enhancing your math skills, through studying and doing your home work, you will be exercising your brain to work fast in problem solving situations you face during virtually any team sport, such as football, volleyball and basketball. These sports require players to interact and think fast to reach the final goal. Math and reading assignments help prepare students to think logically and fast in these and other real-life situations. Moreover, if you are serious about your sport, then you will be traveling a lot during school. This is because you will be competing with your school or extracurricular sports team. Traveling frequently means that you have to miss your actual classes. Even through you are an athlete and may miss instruction, teachers still expect you to learn the skills they are teaching when you are gone! By taking homework assignments seriously, you will be teaching yourself the skills that your teachers are presenting in the classroom. This is very important because you will need to know these math or reading skills for tests and also for future classes! Many schools have minimum grade point average requirements for their student athletes. If a student falls behind in their classes, they must take a break from their sports team until they are able to pull their grades back up. This gives students extra motivation to learn their needed skills and strive to do well in the classroom.Academics also help athletes stay focussed. Learning to study and do homework while on a noisy bus on the way to or from a sports competition will certainly teach someone how to block unnecessary distractions. This is a very valuable skill for athletes in particular. As you probably know, other athletes are instructed to try to distract you during team play so you will not do as well and so their team can score. All of the practice of blocking out distractions while studying will prepare you for times like these.Doing well in school will also motivate you to succeed in life. The vast majority of elementary through high school athletes are not going to become professional athletes. This means that you need to start to prepare today for whatever career you choose for tomorrow. Even if you have what it takes to become a professional athlete, you will greatly benefit from a business degree or at lease the math and reading skills that are necessary to complete personal tasks such as paying bills, balancing banking accounts, and paying taxes. Above all, it is easy to become injured as an athlete, keeping up your grades and learning essential and advanced math and reading skills is like investing in a life insurance plan ! If something bad happens to you forcing you to quit your athletic career, you will have the skills you need to find another career. While this article has focused on the benefits of academics in relation to athletics, it is important to remember that physical activity and organized sports can also help students excel in the classroom! Keep these thoughts in mind the next time a student informs you that you have to be either student or sportsman, because chances are they are missing out on an important and worthwhile aspect of their life. Discuss the points in this article with them and help them out to have a clarity regarding their goal in life.
