Green Tea and Weight Loss

Green tea is gaining much popularity as a potential weight loss supplement. It has long been used as a digestive aid, but recent studies have established positive connections between green tea and weight loss as well. It has both fat-burning and antioxidant properties, which means it can help you lose weight without making you prone to disease.

Green tea is so called because the leaves are only slightly fermented, retaining much of their green color. Green tea can help wash out LDL and slow down the conversion of dietary fats into cholesterol.

Glucose regulation

Unused sugar and carbohydrates are stored in the body as fat cells, which manifest as excess weight. Green tea prevents this by blocking amylase, an enzyme that helps break down starches to be absorbed by the body. However, other amylase inhibitors such as white kidney bean are not 100% effective, and the same may be true for green tea.

Remember, green tea and weight loss products can only supplement weight loss routines. Proper diet and exercise are still the best ways to maintain a healthy weight. If you are planning to take green tea for weight loss, consult your doctor to find out which products are safe, and whether it will work for you.
