Holiday Season Got You Down? Blood Pressure Going Up?

By: Hypertension News

With the start of the holiday season just days away, the cold weather moving in -- not to mention the in-laws -- dinners to prepare, shopping lists to fulfill, bills to pay and all the other stressful activities on tap for the holidays, it's no wonder stress levels and blood pressure are on the rise.

But simply reducing stress this holiday season may not be enough to lower the elevated blood pressure that can come with it. High blood pressure increases the risk for heart disease, stroke and kidney failure, all unwelcome guests during the holiday season. For the more than 65 million Americans who suffer from high blood pressure chronically (and throughout the holiday season) relief can be found with RESPeRATE long into the new year. RESPeRATE is an FDA-cleared personal therapeutic device that is clinically proven to lower high blood pressure without side effects.

According to the Mayo Clinic on High Blood Pressure, "The effects of acute stress are usually only temporary. However, if you experience stress regularly, the increases in blood pressure that it produces over time damage your arteries, heart, brain, kidneys and eyes -- just as with persistent high blood pressure. This cumulative effect of stress often goes unrecognized until it manifests itself as a serious health problem."

More than seven clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of device-guided breathing have been published in a number of peer-reviewed clinical studies. RESPeRATE taps the body's natural tendency to follow external rhythms, utilizing musical tones to guide users to breathe at a slower pace, thereby dilating the body's blood vessels and lowering their blood pressure. While breathing returns to normal after each session with RESPeRATE, the beneficial impact on blood pressure accumulates and is maintained.

"Clinicians have long known that stress is an underlying cause of increased blood pressure," says Thomas Pickering, M.D., Ph.D., FRCP, Director, Behavioral Cardiovascular Health and Hypertension Program Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. "Non-drug alternatives such as RESPeRATE have great promise for reducing both hypertension and stress. That combined approach makes RESPeRATE a valuable treatment option at this hectic time of year."

About RESPeRATE

RESPeRATE(R) is FDA-cleared for over-the-counter sale and is the only medical device on the market clinically proven to lower blood pressure through paced breathing therapy. The device uses the body's natural tendency to follow external rhythms, interactively guiding the user to effortlessly reduce breathing rate to a "therapeutic zone" of less than 10 breaths per minute. The breathing exercises with RESPeRATE relax the constricted muscles surrounding the small blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more freely and yielding a significant and lasting reduction of blood pressure within weeks.
