Home Care Nurses are in Real Demand Today

By: Kriss Standke

Private Nurses take care of people in their homes. Private nurses offer quality and affordable nursing services for those people who are not able to care for themselves. Often family members do what they can but find they become overwhelmed. Generally the home nurse is only needed for two to three days a week. Home nurses find themselves caring for a wide range of patients. The elderly are among those in most need for a private nurse. Others may include people who are recovering from a serious illness or accident but do not need to be hospitalized.

The job of the nurse is not restricted to caring for the patient. Helping the affected family may also be required. This may include helping patients with things like shopping, cooking, cleaning, bathing, along with the expected services like dispensing medication, checking blood pressure, changing bandages, and report being regularly to the attending physician. Parents of disabled children often times will hire a private nurse to give their child the extra care and attention they require.

One of the biggest reasons for the recent rise in private home care needs was due to the problem of Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's patients, especially those in the latter stages of the disease, need help and supervision constantly. Private nurses are often treated as close friends of the family. Private nurses may even be provided with living quarters in or near the home of a patient so they may be close when needed.

Home nursing jobs have become one of the fastest growing careers today. With the rise in availability of jobs for private nurses so too comes a rise in the number of employment agencies who offer these services. Private nursing care agencies sometimes offer jobs to nurses to care for entire families. Most of these private home nursing care agencies are certified by and paid for through Medicare.

While the requirements for a job in private nursing will differ, most agencies require that the nurse has received some specialized training related to home care. Today, employment agencies will also offer huge bonuses to nurses who agree to work with them.
