I Like A Good Vacation Hotel

Do you like to travel? I bet you do. But how do you like your accommodation? Perhaps you like to carry it around on your back in a giant rucksack. Or perhaps you like to meet others in giant hostels where the amenities are cheap if somewhat sparse and basic.

For me, I enjoy neither. It is, for me, a hotel or bust! And not just your common-and-garden basic room without a view, but I like to go for something with a bit of luxury.

Don't get me wrong – I don't mean being waited on hand and foot like some member of the British Royal Family. But I do like a bit of pampering in my leisure time. After all we have all earned our vacation breaks and we pay good money for the experience. And, for me, the experience includes the accommodation and the environment in which it is situated.

I like a nice, clean, comfortable room which is spacious and smoke-free. That is my first consideration. Then I like a nice spa area and in-house restaurant with good amenities, great food selection and, in particular, a good selection of wines.

No riff raff. Certainly none. They spoil the ambiance, tend to be loud and boisterous and they often smoke, drink and get up to other unmentionables. Call me a snob but I like people that respect the environment and views of others and the rights of others to be left alone.

Staff should always be polite, attentive and available. A good hotel has more than good food and good wine. It has good, if not excellent, customer service.

None of this is hard to find but you may, of course, have to pay for it.
