1. Assertiveness One of the best ways to improve your daily life is to learn to be assertive. Assertiveness training classes should be available for you to attend in major cities. Often universities or community colleges will offer them. Sometimes you can find them offered by private companies. There are also many books on the subject and you can learn about it on the web. Positive Affirmations You can also apply positive affirmations to your daily life. This is a big help for developing positive self-esteem. Exercise Don’t forget exercise. Physical exercise is not only good for your body, it can help you feel emotionally better and make it easier for you to focus. Leonard Morehouse developed a program to train the astronauts to keep fit in zero gravity and small confined areas. His book is called Total Fitness in 30 Minutes a Week. (Not a day; a week--three 10 minutes sessions a week) It is available used at bookstores online. 5. Self-Help Here is a site that has articles on self-help in many areas. A very popular form is Transcendental Meditation (TM) which is widely available. TM was developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as a way for ‘householders’ (people who have domestic responsibilities and can’t go live in a monastery) to get the benefits of this kind of practice while maintaining their normal lifestyle. There are also yoga programs on television and there are many books on the subject available at the library or bookstores. 7. Chanting Another popular program is Nichiren Shoshu. This is an ancient denomination of Buddhism which involves chanting which helps a person to get centered and calm. It is easy to do and there may be a group near you that meets regularly. These good activities support and enhance each other and make progress that much faster. You can take control of your life by taking control of your mind, body and emotions.
