Ingrown Hairs! - Discover How To Deal With It

By: Sarah H

Ingrown hairs can be very painful at times; this type of condition is when the hair bends backwards and goes into the skin, but these can easily be remedied with the help of a warm cloth and a tweezers. Then there are the people who suffer from chronic ingrown hair and these are usually people with natural curly hair, because the hair is already curly when it bends back into the skin there is hardly any way they can get it out without puncturing the skin. There are many different types of products on the market to treat ingrown hairs.

The simplest way to get rid of ingrown hair would be if you can see the ingrown hair near the surface you should soften the spot with warm water, then you take a tweezers which you should have already sterilized and pull at the ingrown hair until it comes out of the follicle. If you have recurring ingrown hair it might be due to an infection so the next time you try taking out an ingrown hair apply some sort of antiseptic cream to the area after you have removed the ingrown hair. If you find that the area where you removed the ingrown hair is still infected you should consult with your doctor who will most likely prescribe some type of antibiotics for you to take to clear up the infection

Ingrown hair treatment products contain a type of acid mixed with a moisturizer, but the most common acids used are glycolic and salicylic acids. These types of acids are commonly know as fruit acids and are really a mild exfoliating acid that can usually be found in a surplus of skin care creams and moisturizers. This type of acid is usually used to treat men's beards and women's bikini lines. When deciding on a treatment you should consider one with no less than ten percent concentration to ensure the prevention of ingrown hairs.

Salicylic acid, which is similar to the active ingredient found in aspirin, is also used in a variety of skin care products and does the same basic process that glycolic acid does, it exfoliates the skin to help clear pores and keep oils from building up in the follicles of the hair. Continuous use of these two acids to exfoliate the skin and for the treatment of ingrown hair should drastically reduce the number of ingrown hair the skin produces.
