Introducing Rings

Rings have been a common type of ornamental jewelry, both for men and women, all throughout history. Although some rings may be worn on the neck or arm as with some cultures, finger rings are the most popular. They are a circular band (hence the term “ring”) that can be made out of various materials and sometimes define a person’s status in life in the case of wedding and engagement rings, a person’s lineage in the case of signet rings, a person’s religious profession in the case of an Ecclesiastical ring like the Pope’s or a Bishop’s and a host of other purposes, trivial or otherwise. It’s so much a part of modern fashion that everyone may sport a ring of their choice, from the design, to the material and even based on color and their budget.

Rings are so popular not least because they they can be manufactured out of many substances. In olden times, iron, copper, silver and gold were the most common materials. Judging from what material a person is wearing you can already, often, tell what class in life they belong.

Eventually, people learned how to set gems within the rings which broadened the design possibilities to a much wider field. Starting with a hand-picked selection of gemstones and artistically combining them together in one ring is a jeweler’s dream. The possibilities are endless and the pieces unique so more and more people have also become more selective when it comes to choosing their rings.
