Iraq: Return Home Now

Why are we there, anyway? According to our woeful Government, we were ‘invited’ to attend the party, to ‘liberate’ the people. Has this had any lasting gratitude from the people there, or is it time to rein in the less-than-enthusiastic Western Armies and head home?

The people don’t want us there anyway; ‘liberation’ often means ‘death’, as the Western way of warfare is often to shoot first – often from a safe distance – and scoot off back to base to re-arm. Any country that survives an indiscriminate bombing campaign that results in major collateral damage – US Army-speak for ‘killing innocent people’ - can rightly believe it’s not about ‘liberation’ but more about widespread carnage.

The people don’t want us; they’re trying to kill us, often on a daily basis. The military will tell us it’s ‘insurgents’ and ‘bad apples’ but mixed among them are many ordinary Iraqis with a grudge to bear or nothing better to do. I didn’t see the same frenzied coordinated attacks on troops, after Paris was liberated during the Second War, for example. ‘Liberation’ means joy, exultation and mass flower throwing.

It’s oil, isn’t it? Bush and his cohorts have fingers in oily pies; some of his family are magnates in oil, and isn’t it strange that this Iraq debacle is justified by them on the grounds of Human Rights or Liberation – or any other meaningless combination of rubbishy phrases – yet, when it comes to countries that really need our help – notably some African states that are seeing mass genocide – we turn our backs. What, no oil?
