Kings: Artest to Release New Rap Album to Improve His Bad-Boy Reputation

By: Nigel Kerry

In an effort to gain more respect in hip-hop and soften his bad-image image, NBA player Ron Artest is set to release on Oct. 31st a new album titled "My World”.

Artest raps about his personal experiences, world issues and partying in clubs, while also expressing his thoughts about participating in one of the worst brawls in U.S. sports history. Even though he is expecting that many already will stereotype him as another athlete-turned-rapper such as Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant, who did not do well in the music industry, Artest feels confident that he can prove the doubters wrong.

Ron Artest is well known for his character issues the NBA. In 2004, he was suspended for two games after asking Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle for a month off to rest from a busy schedule including promotional appearances for his R&B group Allure, a trio signed under his label Tru Warier Records. Two weeks later, Artest charged into the stands toward a Detroit fan and exchanged punches with other fans. Later he claimed that he was hit in the face with a cup of ice. Following this event he has been suspended for 73 regular-season games and the playoffs.

It was during his time-off that Artest continued to work out on his new album while promoting Allure's album. Unfortunately the group's album "Chapter III" was a failure and major record labels were not showing any interest in him. In addition, the Indiana Pacers traded him to the Sacramento Kings.

On his way to become a rapper, Artest already earned some moral support among the rappers and the music industry such as Producer Rodney Jerkins and DJ Drama. Taking his new career direction very seriously, he also already toured to promote his album. For instance, he performed this year during the popular Hot 97 Summer Jam festival in New York, opened for rapper Fat Joe on a European tour, and was also the beginning act for platinum-plus selling artists Ludacris and Young Jeezy.
