You have decided that you want to learn to speak Spanish, From Spanish alphabet to Spanish grammar, conversational grammar, and correct Spanish pronunciation. You need to understand that a lot of the words that begin with “F” in other Romance Languages begin with “h” in Spanish (hilo, thread, hijo, son) The other influence in Spanish is Moorish, A lot of Spanish vocabulary beginning with “al-“ come from Moorish descent. ( alfombra, rug,alfiler, pin, almohada, pillow).And some of the English words that come from Spanish are Cargo, siesta, hacienda, patio, armada, canyon, plaza, rodeo, adobe, vanilla, tornado, and embargo.As you learn Spanish, you will come across words that look familiar. However don’t be fooled, you may see a word in Spanish that you think you know and recognise but be very careful e.g.: tell someone you are embarazada, your telling them you are pregnant. If you want to go to the libreria your are really going to the bookstore. Fancy a new dress and ask for some fabrica, you will be wearing a factory. This just goes to show that although look and sound the same we can be deceived.As you learn more you will realise that there is a formal and informal way to address someone. Familiar is tu, and the formal id usted. The familiar is used with your friends and younger people, whilst the formal is used with strangers or those older than you.Some words mean the same thing but you would actually only use them in Spain, such as “Vosotros estais felices “ and “Ustedes estan felices “ in English You are Happy.This remembered will help you as you begin your quest to speak Spanish, and are well worth remembering. Next all you have to do is decide which way you want to learn, is it online, by CD, perhaps MP3, or video. Or even by textbook. The choice is there and only you can choose which best suits your need.
