Libby Verdict A Sham

By: Mick McNesby

According to a Senate Intelligence Committee Investigation, Joe Wilson, a staunch Democrat and husband of Valerie Plame made accusations and many false claims. Eventually, these false claims led to the conviction of a man that had nothing to do with those claims.

Wilson had gone to Niger, Africa on a partisan mission, attempting to prove that deception, was, what led to the Iraq War.

A ridiculous trial resulting in a guilty verdict for Scooter Libby relating to a totally different matter, was the end result.

The whole trial had nothing to do with the original charge-the outing of Valerie Plame as a CIA agent. The person who revealed her name, which was a non-leak, became known to the prosecutor before the Libby trial began. That person was Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage.

The prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald never should have proceeded with this trial, upon learning that Armitage had outed Valerie Plame, as a CIA agent. No crime was committed by that outing.

This was Washington politics as low and disgusting as it gets.

Even The Washington Post Condemned This Trial

Wilson, made the preposterous claim that he had been sent on the Niger mission by VP Cheney.

A reporter asked Armitage how Wilson could have been sent on this mission, when Wilson had no apparent background for it. Armitage told the reporter that Wilson's wife worked for the CIA; suggesting that her position had much to do with Wilson getting picked.

Wilson's next statement was that his wife was a covert CIA agent and that White House officials leaked her name to punish him and ruin his wife's career.

Soon after, a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee investigation, found that all of these claims by Wilson were false, including the tie in to VP Cheney. The committee's findings were, that Wilson had been recommended by his wife, Valerie Plame and found also that findings brought back from Niger, by Wilson were false.

The trial has since proven that there was no effort to harm Wilson and no evidence that Valerie Plame was covert. In fact, it seems certain she was not covert under the law.

The Washington Post stated "It [the trial}was propelled not by actual wrongdoing but by inflated and frequently false claims"

There is now serious talk of a book and a movie for the Wilsons.

There is not a shred of evidence that Scooter Libby was untruthful. On the other hand the committee found many falsehoods with Wilson's testimony.

Libby is convicted and the Wilson's stand a good chance to get rich from a book and a movie.

This is justice?
